Get More From Your Meditations By Relaxing Your Body.

Sometimes our minds can be all over the place during meditation, maybe you can't get thoughts out of your head or your worrying about the events of the day. For this reason you may find its important to relax before meditating as this can help you to still the mind as well as releasing tension from your body. I personally find my meditations better once I have relaxed my body. One of the best methods that works for me is to tense the whole body part by part. Tensing each body part and holding that tension for a slow count of five seems to help with the releasing of tension and stress from the body. Lets start with the head. First raise your eye brows and try to scrunch up your fore head. Try and hold this position for a count of five. Now simply relax your upper head. Next close your eyes tighter and tighter and hold this for a count of five. Now relax your eyes. Now grit your teeth and tense your neck again holding for a count of five. Now simply relax. Your head should now be relaxed and tension free.

For the main part of the body we'll raise our shoulder as if we're trying to touch our ears. Hold this for a count of five and then relax, slowly letting your shoulders drop. Next work on the right arm by tensing the triceps again for a count of five. Now simply relax. Imagine your now tensing the right forearm. Hold this for a count of five and now simply relax. Next clench your right hand into a fist. Hold this for a count of five, and relax. Now tense the left triceps, holding for a count of five and relax. Imagine tensing the left forearm, hold for a count of five and relax. Now clench the left fist, again holding for a count of five. Now simply relax. Take a comfortable breath in and as you breath in expand and tense the chest. Hold this for a count of five, and breath out and relax. Now pull your stomach in as if to touch your spine with your belly button. Hold this for a count of five and relax. Now the whole of the upper body should be relaxed.

Now for the lower part of the body. Clench your buttock checks and the pelvic region and hold this for a count of five. Again simply relax. Now tense the right thigh, again tensing for a count of five. Now relax. Next tense your right calf and lower leg and hold for a count of five. Again relax. Keeping your heel on the ground curl your toes up and point them at the ceiling. Hold this for a count of five and relax. Now for the left thigh, tensing and holding for a count of five. And relax. working down tense the calf and lower left leg. Again for a count of five and relax. Now keeping your left heel on the floor, curl your left foots toes up as if to point them to the ceiling. Again holding for a count of five and relax. Well done your body should now be feeling relaxed a tension free and this should greatly benefit your meditations.
